At Bell & Buxton we are exceptionally proud of Charlotte Higgins, a solicitor in our commercial department who, as well as supported our clients with everything from commercial contracts to GDPR, also competes at an elite level in cycling.
Charlotte competes in the Dame Sarah Storey team, Storey Racing and holds several British records and most notably became National Derny Champion in 2019.
Last Friday was the National Madison Championships at Derby Velodrome, which included the most successful Olympic Champion of all time, Dame Laura Kenny, five times Olympic Champion and seven times World Champion.
The Madison is a race where each team aims to complete more laps than any of the other teams. Riders in each team take turns during the race, handing over to another team member, resting, and then returning to the race. Teams consist of two riders. Only one rider of the team is racing at any time, and the replacement rider has to be touched before taking over. The touch is one rider hurling the other into the race by a hand-sling. The race was 120 laps around the velodrome.
Charlotte, who races under her maiden name, Charlotte Parnham, rode this event with Alison Fovargue. They had never raced together before and were the only ladies in the field with full-time careers. They came fifth, behind Olympic Champions, Team GB, Team Wales and Team Scotland, and so were the first non-professional team.
Bell & Buxton are very proud of her success and wish her luck with the season as it continues.
