Social Care Reform

Social Care Reform

The Dillnot report was not mentioned in the Queen's speech - this is an issue which has been bubbling for ages, one aspect of which is capping lifetime contributions to care at £35,000.

Not only do I have a professional interest in this, I have a very personal interest as well. To date, we have probably paid about £15,000 for my husband's own personal care and will be likely to rise as soon as he retires, to the rate of £18,000 per year. This is only for care at home and only on the basis that his needs do not increase. If he goes into residential care, then the sky might as well be the limit.

This is something which any civilised society ought to be dealing with as a matter of priority, but I unfortunately cannot see any appetite for this, given the state of the public finances.
