Withers and Rogers Steal the Bell & Buxton Crown

The team at Bell & Buxton have taken up the Master Cutler’s Challenge with great gusto!

Having already organised a car boot sale and a ‘Spot the Baby’ competition, their latest endeavour was to hold a ‘Beat the Solicitor’ Charity Quiz at the Tulip Lounge, Sheffield.

The night attracted 18 businesses from across the region, including Investec, Moorhead Savage, Whitehall Independent Financial, CRA Legal and RBS, each bringing a knowledgeable team of four to try to beat the Bell& Buxton Partners quiz team.

The night was opened by Matt Rodgers, one of Bell & Buxton’s four partners, followed by an informative and engaging talk by Jonny Cole, Cavendish Cancer Care. The quiz itself was compered by the CEO of Zenith Chambers in Leeds, Andrew Argyle, who ran a tight but fun ship!

The Withers and Rogers team not only secured the prize for best team name (If you’re not withers, you’re rogered) but also took home the main quiz prize, 4 x £100 Red Letter Day Vouchers, generously donated by Wilson Field.

There were also wooden spoons for the losing team (who shall remain nameless!) and Bell & Buxton branded cupcakes for each team scoring higher than the Bell & Buxton Partners team.

The night itself raised well over £1500 for the Cavendish Cancer Care charity, with almost a third coming from raffle ticket sales.

Matthew Rodgers, Partner, Bell & Buxton Solicitors, commented:
“We entered into the Master Cutler’s Challenge to show support for the initiative and for Cavendish Cancer Care.  We wanted to put something together that was fun for our clients as well as our staff, but I never expected it to be quite the success that it turned out to be. Our Twitter feed went crazy first thing on Friday morning!

“I am really proud of our team here at Bell &Buxton, they worked really hard both before and during the event, and have already started to work on our next Master Cutler’s Challenge event.”

Commenting on the event, Jonny Cole, Cavendish Cancer Care, said:
“Cavendish Cancer Care is delighted to be supported by Bell and Buxton Solicitors. Their ‘Beat the Solicitor’ quiz, while not featuring any actual beating up of solicitors, was still a hugely enjoyable evening. The winning teams who beat the firm’s partners in the quiz received some fantastic prizes. Most importantly, due to the firms hard work in organising the evening, over £1500 was raised, as part of their Master Cutlers Challenge 2012, supporting local people affected by a diagnosis of cancer."

Steve Brown, Managing Director, Highlander IT and Telecoms, commented:
“Beat the Solicitor, I thought the title would be better than the event but I was wrong.

“It was fantastic to raise money for The Master Cutlers Challenge, whilst at the same time have a great night with a great bunch of people”.
