Head of Will, Trust & Inheritance Disputes and Associate Solicitor
Bell & Buxton Solicitors is home to a renowned team of specialist solicitors with expertise in representing clients to resolve will, trust and inheritance disputes.
Following Government advice the office will now be closed until further notice. We will continue to work remotely from home and you can contact us by phone and email. The main switchboard will be open and operating during normal office hours 9am-5pm Monday to Friday, we will pass your call on and ask the relevant person to contact you. At this difficult time we wish all our clients well, if you need us we will endeavour to respond.
Bell & Buxton is recognised by The Legal 500 as one of the leading law firms in Yorkshire for our expertise in this niche and often complex area of the law. Our team of ‘genuine contentious trust and probate specialists' is known for its ‘practical and client-friendly approach to each case’ and ‘deservedly strong reputation and good resources’. Our reputation draws clients from all over the country and even internationally.
If problems arise with a will or an estate of someone who has died, or with a trust, we are here to help. Whether you are an executor, trustee or beneficiary, or if you have recently lost a spouse, partner, parent or other relative and need advice about your rights.
We can also help resolve disputes around powers of attorney or alleged financial abuse. Our team is experienced in negotiations and in pursing claims through the Courts to achieve justice.
The team is headed by John Breeze, Associate Solicitor, a Legal 500 Recommended Lawyer (2020) who has been in practise since 2005, and whose accreditations include membership of the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists (ACTAPS) and affiliate membership of the Society of Trust and Estates Practitioners.
Katie Winslow is a Solicitor and a Legal 500 (2020) Recommended Lawyer with many years of experience in this specialist field, having practised at a leading national firm of solicitors prior to joining Bell & Buxton. Katie is also a fully accredited member of Solicitors for the Elderly.
John and Katie are ably assisted by experienced paralegal Rachel Valentine, who has provided support within the Will, Trust and Inheritance Disputes team for many years.
The success of the team is largely attributed to our ability to offer the kind of experience, expertise and strong contact base that enables us to compete with large national firms, combined with a personal, accessible, one-to-one service that our clients tell us they appreciate, particularly when coping with difficult personal and family circumstances.
It is this winning combination of expertise and a personal, down-to-earth approach that enabled Mary Butler, the founder of the Bell & Buxton team, to gain a national reputation as a leading expert in the field of will, trust and inheritance disputes, over a period of more than 25 years. A winner of several awards, including as the ACTAPS Contentious Solicitor of the Year in 2016, Mary was at the very forefront of practise in this area of the law as it developed, and the team continues to draw inspiration from her success.
Accredited with the Law Society's Conveyancing Quality Scheme since 2013.
"No-nonsense, get-it-sorted approach, which is refreshing and effective."
- Legal 500 2017
“My law firm doesn’t offer a contentious trusts and probate service but we receive a significant number of enquiries which I try to help with. I have worked throughout the country, including for some other good Yorkshire firms, and I have always been aware of Bell and Buxton’s nationally renowned for your expertise in the field Contentious Trusts and Probate. It’s for this reason that I always refer clients to them for expert legal advice.”
- Testimonial from a local Solicitor
"John Breeze is very approachable and professional. I was kept well-informed with regular updates and clear explanations as my case progressed. I cannot adequately express my gratitude to him for guiding me through each step of the legal process...I would not hesitate to approach Bell & Buxton should I require legal advice again."
